I am John Higgins, your Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner

Contributed to ANC’s efforts to seek alternative locations for the Lafayette School Pre-K. Played a central role in assisting the 

re-opening of the Episcopal Center for Children for students with severe learning disabilities. Funding to support the ECC mission came by a lease of ECC property to Maret school for creating a sports field on the site. 

I was a leader within our ANC in extending the M-4 bus service to the Chevy Chase, Chestnut Street, and Oregon Avenue/Knollwood bus route, and I continue to advocate for restoration of the E6 bus.

I am attuned to retiree issues which can be addressed within the ANC. At Knollwood, I played a major role in re-activating  residents health care committee.

As ANC Treasurer, supported and managed grants to The International Women’s Democracy Center - The Potomac Appalachian Trail Club for Rock Creek upgrades - The Chevy Chase Citizens Association for outreach technology.

With other Commissioners I was highly engaged in our ANC’s response to the D.C. Small Area Plan. The ANC response included my proposal to utilize innovative options to ensure greater citizen engagement versus conventional zoning.
